【New Taipei City】 Few people are aware that the Tamsui River estuary is home to clams, and that Tamsui is where Taiwan's clam aquaculture industry originated. The sandy seabed of the Tamsui estuary provides a highly suitable environment for the growth of clams. In earlier times, this region yielded abundant clams and required only simple fishing gear and natural tides for clam harvesting. Today, some fishermen in Tamsui still employ this traditional fishing technique, which has been passed down through generations, to harvest clams. Furthermore, through clam restocking efforts and seasonal fishing practices, locals have successfully maintained a sustainable balance in the ecology of the Tamsui estuary!
