The award was organized by FIABCI-Taiwan. Today, the award was dedicated to New Taipei Mayor You-yi Hou in New Taipei City Council by Director Li-Zhen Zhang on behalf of the Office.

Director Li-Zhen Zhang of the Office indicated that “Tamsui First Fishing Port Water Environment Construction and Improvement Project” has taken the development of traditional fishery and recreation routes for crowds on holidays into consideration and effectively partitioned and improved the integral landscape of the traditional fishery area and visitor walking area without affecting the landscape. Additionally, the bike trail from Tamsui Old Street to Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf through Tamsui First Fishing Port has been opened up, and it connects tourist attractions in the vicinity with the belt recreational business district centering Tamsui First Fishing Port. The newly constructed multi-function finger-pier in the “Fuji Fishing Port Water Environment Construction and Improvement Project” has improved the statical stability of the port and met the need of the number of boats mooring at the port. Moreover, the new method of construction has set up a boardwalk platform for the pier and enlarged the area of the finger-pier. The foundation piles beneath the pier have become a wave absorption area and rest area for marine life. The platform above has been equipped with recreational chairs and plants, stretching tourists and people’s activity to the center of the fishing port to create a recreational area for water activities. The ecological method of construction has created a win-win situation for ecological environment, fishery needs and recreational space, making fishery resources sustainable.

Director Wen Li of Agriculture Bureau stated that New Taipei City has a total of 28 fishing ports along its 145-kilometer-long coastline, making it a city with the most fishing ports. The city government has made great efforts to improve each fishing port. Additionally, the government always listens to different opinions in the process of design and construction to make traditional fishing industry sustainable and create distinctive fishing ports. The two water environment improvement projects were unanimously approved by the judges of 2021 FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Awards because of the endeavors of fishermen and colleagues of Agriculture Bureau. He hoped that people can visit fishing ports to enjoy their new looks after the COVID-19 pandemic is under control.
