The marine aquaculture industry of New Taipei City originates from 1970s: The fishermen started to use the coast’s abundant geographical conditions to cultivate variously colored abalones and applied for the license of demarcated fishing right to the former Taipei County government in accordance with the Fisheries Act (according to the Fisheries Act, it is the right to partition a specific water area for operating aquaculture) till today.

However, as the majority of abalones was infected and dead in 2003, Agriculture Department of New Taipei City Government has not only guided some of the famers to cultivate abalones instead, but also carried out drug residue testing on their aquatic products before the three Chinese festivals: Dragon Boat’s Festival, Mid-Moon Festival and Chinese New Year).

To make citizens more secured about their food, the City government also guided farmers to apply for the certification of safety label from 2014. That is, customers will not only receive product-related information from the package sticker, but also obtain information related to the location of manufacturer, drug residue test results and farmers from the QRCode.
