Fisheries and Fishing Port Affairs Management Office, New Taipei City Government (hereinafter referred to as The Office) indicated that the beauty of twilight in Tamsui has been sung for nearly one century. When golden sunshine falls on Tamsui River along with the gentle sea breeze, it shows the beauty of sunset. Lover Bridge is particularly one of the best spots to enjoy sunset which always makes people forget about the hustle and bustle of our daily life. To activate the development of stores at the fishing port and prosper local economy, New Taipei City Government and related units in recent years have held various activities such as “Tamsui Fisherman Stage,” “New Taipei City Champion Beer Festival,” “Tour de Taiwan,” “Splendid Night on Chinese Valentine's Day at Fisherman's Wharf,” “Hip-Hop Amusement Park” and other events at Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf. These diverse activities for families have brought bonuses to tourism at the fishing port. In terms of multiple use and development, the fishing port has become a good model for the rest of 224 fishing ports around Taiwan.
The Office stated that the fisherman's wharf has held various events to attract tourists. Additionally, the installation art works of Miffy, “romantic and happy tree and bell”, “lover photo frame”, and “I'm here in Tamsui” have successfully become a subject of talks, attracted people, both young and old, to take photos and check-in at the fisherman's wharf which turned the place into a recreational spot for families to create numerous memories. Moreover, to encourage people to take public transportation, the city government set up Youbike spots at the fishing port in 2017 for tourists to ride bicycle from Tamsui MRT Station to the fisherman's wharf so as to enjoy an in-depth tour, explore the local fishing village, and learn more about the historical sites and history of Tamsui to activate local economy.
The Office further pointed out that although the number of tourists taking tour buses to the fishing port has slightly declined, the number of foreign or local tourists taking public transportation, riding bicycle or taxi has been increasing. To secure the number of sightseers, the fisherman's wharf will work with The Tamsui Light Rail after it completes in order to continue and renew activities at the fishing port to promote benefits from tourism. Additionally, the construction of the third anchorage yacht pier will become a diverse spot, attract the investment of more private capital into construction, activate and develop the fishing port to upgrade the sightseeing quality at Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf.
