Taiwan’s whitebait fishery primarily targets the larvae and juveniles of fish species such as buccaneer anchovy (Encrasicholina punctifer), shorthead anchovy (Encrasicholina heteroloba), and Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus).
The main whitebait fishing area in New Taipei City is the waters off Tamsui District.
