New Taipei City's Eel Fry Fishing Ban Begins March 1st, Calling on Fishermen to Jointly Protect Eel Resources

[New Taipei City News] Eel farming is a vital fishery industry in Taiwan. To ensure the sustainable use of eel resources, the New Taipei City Government, in accordance with the Ministry of Agriculture's “Regulations on the Control of Eel Fry Fishing Seasons,” prohibits the capture of eel fry by any means within 3 nautical miles of the coast, as well as in intertidal zones and estuarine waters, from March 1 to October 31 each year. Violators will be subject to fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000. The New Taipei City Government's Fisheries and Fishing Port Affairs Management Office calls upon fishermen engaged in eel fry harvesting to comply with the seasonal control regulations and work together to protect precious eel resources.
