People Asked to Stay Safe at Home as COVID-19 Prevention Continues at New Taipei City Fishing Ports

In recent years, 28 fishing ports in New Taipei City have been actively promoting the project of “Saying Hi to Fishing Ports” to improve hardware facilities at the fishing ports and make a breakthrough on traditional fishery images. In addition to making fishing ports more accessible to fishermen, the project explores the new features of other fishing ports by conducting cross-industry alliance to offer recreational and sightseeing activities by the ocean. These diverse and colorful events are beyond our imagination! However, as the COVID-19 pandemic is still serious in Taiwan, Fisheries and Fishing Port Affairs Management Office (hereinafter referred to as the Office) asks people to stay safe at home and not to come to the fishing ports. You are welcomed to visit these fishing ports after the pandemic is over.
 
In view of infections among migrant workers in other counties and cities, fishing ports in New Taipei City carry on the operation of COVID-19 prevention, and the Office continues to clean up and disinfect fishing ports and fishing boats. Additionally, it has requested fishermen’s associations in five districts that are under its jurisdiction to make pandemic prevention announcements for foreign fishermen to follow and to put up multi-language pandemic prevention posters in New Taipei City’s 17 fishing ports where foreign fishermen work at. The posters are printed in English, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai and other foreign languages. Moreover, pandemic prevention announcements are regularly broadcast in foreign languages, and flyers with epidemic prevention information printed in foreign languages are distributed at the fishing ports to make sure that foreign fishermen obtain latest pandemic prevention information without any language barrier and that everyone wears a mask to comply with epidemic prevention at fishing ports.
 
The Office points out that fishermen of the city must wear a mask at all times when they work on a fishing boat or when they leave the fishing boat to work at a fishing port during the nationwide level 3 epidemic alert. Fishing boat owners, fishermen and employed foreign fishermen must abide by pandemic prevention guidelines, and fishing boat owners are requested to control the whereabouts of these hired foreign fishermen. Except for unloading and reorganizing, they should not leave fishing boats or fishing ports unless it is necessary. Additionally, they should avoid unnecessary movement, activities or gatherings and should not go to crowded public places to protect themselves and others. To prevent the pandemic from spreading, fishermen who do not follow epidemic prevention measures by wearing a mask when they work on a fishing boat or at a fishing port will be fined from NT$3,000 to NT$15,000.
