To organize “2017 Project of Encouraging Local Governments to Carry out Five-Link Reform for Food Safety” and executing “Monitoring Project for Places of Production of Aquatic Products not Sold on Market,” Agriculture Department, New Taipei City Government (hereinafter referred to as The Department) sampled and tested a total of 136 aquatic products of market size in the city in 2018, and results showed that all of the products were qualified.

Food Safety Guaranteed with Inspection of New Taipei City Government
The Department indicated that to make sure people eat aquatic products without worries, it executes the project of “Monitoring Project for Places of Production of Aquatic Products not Sold on Market” and samples and tests the aquatic products of culturists (including land fish ponds and shallow sea culture) in the city before they are sold on the market each year. This year (2018), The Department organized “2017 Project of Encouraging Local Governments to Carry out Five-Link Reform for Food Safety” to sample and test aquatic products of market size as well as planned on sampling and testing live feeds used for fish-catching and cultured aquatic products in the city for the entire year. Additionally, The Department conducted visits on a regular basis for the free-range time and breeding seasons of cultured aquatic animals and propagandized drug use safety to prevent aquatic products violating the regulations of hygiene and safety from being sold on the market.
In 2018, The Department sampled and tested a total of 136 cultured and caught aquatic products and live feeds for culture, including abalones, small abalones, trouts, sea perches, sturgeons, gracilaria, seaweed and so on, and all of which received the analysis of drug and heavy metal residues individually in accordance with laws and regulations related to food safety. The results showed that all of the 136 items met the “Sanitation Standard for Aquatic Animal,” “Standards for veterinary drug residue limits in foods” and “Sanitation Standard for General Foods” announced by Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The Department reminded culturists again to obey drug use regulations for aquatic animals, reasonably use drugs on aquatic animals and abide by restriction on drug withdrawal. Culturists are forbidden to use illegal drugs. The Department would immediately conduct mobile control at aquatic farms for unqualified culturists in accordance with Consumer Protection Act, and these culturists would be fined from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 in accordance with Article 40-2 of Veterinary Drugs Control Act. During the control, their cultured aquatic products are not allowed to be sold on the market. The control would only be lifted once they are qualified upon a second test. New Taipei City Government controls the city’s aquatic products from the source to safeguard food safety for people.
