As the regional submarine geology is mainly composed of rocks, the issue of drifting sand is rather minor in Aodi and the port has an excellent condition in overall. Successively built under the budget of the Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction, Fishery Office and New Taipei City government since 1952, Aodi Fishing Port is equipped with a complete set of land facilities including fish market, ice-making tank, refrigeration plant, filling station and ship yard. To respond to the future development of fishery with an increasing demand of berth space, the “Second-Stage Fishing Port Construction Project for Taiwan” has developed a third berth of 1.8 hectare and built a -3.5m water depth wharf of 365m, which can be used to berth fishing vessels below 50 tons.
In 1999, an outer breakwater sized 110m was built outside the northern breakwater; later in 2002, the inner side of northern breakwater was reconstructed with a length of 42.4m and used as a wharf. Vessels of Aodi mostly operate in oceans around Pengjia Islet and Guisandao Islet (Ilan), where the course of travel takes about 5 days; vessels that operate in oceans around Keelung Islet and Sandiao Bay travel forth and back within a day.
The vessels are mainly engaged in inshore fisheries such as gill net, spearing sailfish, long line, pole and lines boots, trolling line fishery, stick-held dip net. Their catches are mostly sailfish, Greater Amberjack, red seabream, Butterfishes, skipjack tuna, neritic squid, Bigfin reef squid, lobster, grouper and miscellaneous fishes.
